I purchased the fan to move very warm air from under my built in corner desk where my computer and all of the computer gear is installed. I have an APC, router, external disk drives, etc. The fan does a great job. The adjustable speed is nice and there is a real difference in the speed when you change the control. This fan operates as quite as a fan can get when it moves this much air. My only negative observation is the fan has trouble staying in the angle position where you want it. It wants to drop to the level position. This could be a problem with this individual fan. Over all I like it and feel that it was a good solution for my problem. Oh yes, I am also going to try the fan to blow welding fumes away from my welding helmet.

Rightfully so because Bryson's narrative is really what makes the book a terrific read! In A Brief History of Nearly Everything, Bryson answers deep scientific questions about the natural world in a way that's plain and easy to understand. He is not pretentious - Bryson does not withhold what we do not know but rather is quick to point it out. Bryson is awesomely aware of what we do and don't know in science. is superbly descriptive of the scale of natural anomalies. Lastly, Bryson is superbly descriptive of natural anomalies and their scale; and he omits to present any information lest it bein an entertaining way. For example, Bryson never omits the quirks and eccentric stories behind key figures in science - his description of Isaac Newton was particularly memorable. "Frustrated by the limitations of math" up to his point in history, Newton invented calculus and kept it to himself for 27 years. When asked an indirect question about the moon's orbit, Newton wrote Philsophiae Naturalis Principia Mathematica, which lists the first four laws of motion and gravitational constant of the earth. These laws were tested over the next two hundred years and were found to be astonishingly accurate. To date, no one know what methods Newton used to arrive at his conclusions; more impressively, no one knows how he could learn all this in a matter of weeks within the confine of his room (without any experiments). According to Bryson, Newton was as brilliant as he was weird. Newton was foremost an alchemist and most of his writings were on cultic theology. Some of Newton's personal experiments were in staring at the sun for as long as he could bear (fortunately his sight returned after some weeks), and in seeing how far back he could push a metal rod between his eye and his lacrimal bone. On many days, Newton was so consumed in his thoughts that he would forget to get out of bed and start his day. After Newton had died, scientists in a later period would wonder at how high the mercury content was in his hair. Another memorable episode was Bryson's recounting of a feud between dinosaur discoverers Edward Drinker Cope and Othniel Charles Marsh. The competition between the two lead to more dinosaur discoveries in so short a period than any other time. Such interesting stories like this help us appreciate the knowledge we have attained in different fields of science (geology in this case) and the means by which it was discovered. In conclusion, Bryson's A Brief History of Nearly Everything is an entertaining read but also recommended one to any that want to explore the grandeur of the cosmos. I give it four out of four stars. These Sennheisers have good sound in all ranges, easy recharging, and good TV compatibility for their moderate price. The only thing that prevented me from rating these headphones 5-stars is that the design and comfort leaves much to be desired. I knew when I purchased them that they were "on-the-ear" type and that's not the problem; the on-ear part is very comfortable and can even be replaced if necessary for a small charge. The annoying, uncomfortable part is the headphone band that goes across the top of the head. It does have some foam/velour padding, but the way they're designed makes them press on the top of the head regardless of how you adjust them. After an hour or so, I have to re-adjust them so my head doesn't hurt. I can live with this, but the most infuriating thing is that when moving around the house while wearing them, if you just bend forward slightly they fall off and hit the floor regardless of how they are on your head. The only way I got around this was to position the headband far back, behind the crown of my head. This works if you only bend forward slightly, but if you bend way down to pick something up, they still fall off. If you're standing on a hard floor, this could cause them to break. I wish the designers would test these products on human beings with various head sizes and moving around like you're supposed to be able to. That's the idea of wireless headphones, right? For the heater, there is a temperature dial that you turn for it to kick on, and then after heating for a moment it shuts off - apparently believing it has "heated the area" sufficiently now, however it really has not! The heater fan is very weak and perhaps only heats 1-2 square feet around it. I was always upset that it seemed to auto shutdown on the heater so soon. That lasted a little while, and now the heater will not even turn on reliably, even in a cold room (50-60 F). I've owned it for less than a year and sent a note to Honeywell requesting an RMA, we'll see what happens. It's just full of faulty parts apparently, and I'm surprised the fan still works! I don't know how the heat dial works or that it determines to shut down (temp sensor, timer, etc) but I think they should make it work like the fan... just always on and the dial just adjusts how hot the heat coils get. There has been no crashes or freeze ups so far as earlier versions of VS were prone to do. It works with 32bit XP and 32bit Win 7 without a problem. I have used it for making a picture slide show (fancy one) for the local Moose Lodge's website and it works great (you have to buy a 3rd party web viewer software). It is especially good at making Flash .flv files. The web viewer software uses this type of file for video streaming. All in all for the price you can't go wrong unless you are making a hollywood film. For my purposes, this app works very well. It has more of a learning curve than I expected. It has more features than less expensive editing apps I've tried so the interface is more complicated than I needed. But I think most users will like the app's extended functionality. I do wish the instructional booklet were more user-friendly. I had to go online to troubleshoot most of the time. That being said, once I got my editing method down the app was great for what I needed. The resulting videos are high in quality. The sound features and the transition filters in particular add a professional sheen to my work. And the app outputs and/or converts my video files to many different formats pretty cleanly. If you've got some v-editing experience under your belt, you'll probably jump right in. In general, I really like Corel apps and I haven't been too disappointed with this one. I shut it all down, unplugged the Seagate, waited and then restarted everything...No go. I put the Seagate on a second computer - nothing. I tried a third computer - Nothing. I no longer have access to any of my files. All iTunes downloades are permanently locked away and cannot be accessed. Luckily Rosetta Stone had CDs but as for any other files, they're gone forever. I tried Seagate and was told to retry what I had already tried which obviously did not work. Basically I paid for a black brick. I would not put any money towards this product or company again. What makes this fan a keeper is it's ability to swivel so one fan is facing upward while the other fan is facing horizontally. This is great for circulating the cool air on the floor to the ceiling to give you a more even temperature through the apartment. I live in an old building where the heating and cooling is not very even and this fan works wonders for me. Prior to owning this fan there was at least a 5 degree temperature difference between my bedroom and my living room, no more! The fan isn't for everyone but if you want a fan you can leave on most of the time without causing any great disturbance I would say this one is a great choice. Hunt (Noblesville, IN) After several disasters with space heaters dying on me with only a limited amount of use, I decided to buy this little heater at Best Buy last year with an extended warranty. I have used it off and on for several months and now that it is getting colder again this heater is getting a workout. It is mostly used in the bathroom but I have also used it in my bedroom several times recently, which is pretty large and does get very chilly and it does a great job. It does shut off automatically when the temperature reaches the desired setting. The casing stays really cool which is far different than the radiator heaters that I am currently trying, they get HOT to the touch. It is very light weight and for light sleepers it runs very quiet except for the light click it makes when it shuts off or comes back on adjusting to the temp change. I would say the only cons for this little heater is that there is no safety shut off if it gets knocked over and the temperature setting is a bit of a guessing game since there is no actual numbers (65 70 75 etc.) to go by. This is reasonably easy to figure out though. Overall, as of this post, I would purchase another one of these little heaters in a heartbeat. Relich (Tustin, CA United States) The fan does exactly as it says but I noticed that if you want to turn off the oscillating feature the fan is stuck at whatever degree of rotation it's in. You have to turn the oscillating feature back on then turn it off again for it come back into the default position. The oscillating on-off button is a tiny little push button which can get a little annoying to operate when you're agitated about the heat in the first place. I have this fan in a non-oscillating version as well and I love both of them. I find myself using the fan in standard mode since these guys can really move some air if you position them right. Browder (Pelham, AL United States) If you think of this fan more in the air circulator class of significantly more expensive/larger metallic blade fans and not just as a traditional 'box' fan it suddenly starts to make a whole lot more sense. This is NOT a fan to be used if noise is at all a concern. And really, should anything labeled 'Mega Turbo High Velocity' be thought of otherwise?? They can only be expected to do so much to set your expectations after all. Even by loud fan standards, this thing is LOUD. But if cooling is your primary concern then it's pretty much impossible to beat this unit for the price. I know the previous reviewer complained about the shape of the blades. It is a noiser blade design. But like the aircraft rotor design it borrows from it also allows for MUCH faster rotational speeds than traditional petal blade fan designs and therefore creates significantly greater air circulation. Seriously, if you're wanting to move air, what better company to do that than one that designs jet engines? I've always joked that if I could lash together about 10 of these that I could probably get airborne. I use this fan for tasks like cooling my home gym during workouts, for a quick cool off after working in the yard, cooling my garage/shop when working on projects and when laying out on our back deck getting sun. You can point this thing at you in 100+ degree high humidity heat and feel ok because it moves so much air. Another thing worth noting is the long term durability. I've had one of these for over 5 years now and recently bought another one as I was tired of moving the old one around the house so much. We have other fans, but if I need major cooling, I won't settle for anything less than this. These newer ones are actually notably quieter than its older sister model, but still loud relative to other fans. Living in the Deep South though, I need a fan more for my overall comfort and not for my ears sensitivities. This one's top notch in that regard. As such, it sounds like a P-51 Mustang. It is somewhat unclear what Honeywell/Kaz engineers where thinking when they designed the flat, rectangular blades. It may have been an experiment in consumer psychology where noise correlates to the perceived volume of air being moved. In any event, sculpted blades, which are common on typical fans, are far superior. Another questionable feature of this fan is its power switch. Instead of having a basic mechanical switch, there is round, slightly depressible button that allows the user to cycle through the high-medium-low-off modes. It has been difficult on some occasions. Despite its shortcomings, this fan is quite powerful. If you don't care about ambient noise, this product may be worth considering. I purchased two of these HZ-315 ceramic heaters on January 28, 2009. Both vibrated across a smooth hard floor surface, very unsafe behavior for an electrical heating appliance. I tested the tip over feature while moving it on the floor, and it works well! The whole unit shuts off if it's even a little out of plumb. "Sparky," as I named him, gets pretty hot. One complication is that I had to crawl under the house (oil furnace is 1950's model mounted under the house in the crawl space) and connect a resistor to two terminals on the burner relay. Otherwise when I switch from cooling to heating the thermostat screen will go blank according to the instructions. The resistor comes in the package with the thermostat. I am using it for a boiler heater (which has a red and white wire). You can use it for more than that as well. ( it works for cooling also). The problem came when the heater when on the display disapeared. I was suprised and contacted honeywell and they told me that if you have a "Taco" brand zone valve. (which in simple english- if your heater has different zones for different parts of the house then you would have a zone valve ( its a small outlet near the boilder). Even if you just have one zone you would still have it. So if you have the brand Taco and you can google it, its very popular than this model will not work with it properly. I called honeywell and they are well aware of this problem. They recommend using a model that has battery backup. ( note: this is only a problem with the digital model) not the older models or non digital ones. If you are looking for the right model I would suggest calling honeywell before you buy. 1800-468-1502 many models have battery backup. I hope you save the trouble I went through. Without the extra people here there small call center cools quickly. I got this to keep my legs warm, and it would do the job, if it was consistently on. This lil guy will turn on, and go for a few minutes as it feels like an open campfire 2 inches from your legs, than quickly turn itself back off as soon as you start to warm up. Then you have to adjust it to turn the heat on a higher setting, so your heater will turn back on and continue to provide you with legs that feel almost burned. When you can't tolerate the high heat anymore, as soon as you turn it down then it immediately turns itself onto its sleep like status where its no longer heating. If I could return it and get a full refund I would. But as an electronic device, it has special rules and won't get me all my money back. But one benefit is that you don't smell burning plastic with the Honeywell Model: HZ-2200 that I bought as its replacement. The fan seemingly directs itself, the only certainty being that even if it stays in position long enough for you to take your hands from it, it'll rock back. 2) Although it has three speeds -- some other fans offered at this price have only two -- the top speed is not at all powerful. One wonders if Honeywell sacrificed strength to gain relative quietness. Myself, I'll tolerate a low roar to get a little wind power. The low power would probably be more tolerable to me if it were at least possible to control the angle. But it isn't. Blais (MA, USA) I have been using this item for about two months now and I have noticed a decrease in quality of this item in comparison to another Honeywell Fan I have had for 6 years. This item is not as powerful as the Honeywell HT800 Super Turbo High Performance Fan, Black which I have owned and used exclusively for 6 New England Summers. The current of air that is projected from this item on high equals about the current that comes from my old Honeywell Fan on Low. I am only comparing a single fan on this item to the single fan on my old Honeywell Fan. The size of the electric motors on this item is noticably smaller than the one on my old Honeywell Fan as well. The flexibility of this dual fan item allows for multi-directional ventilation which is nice to have when coming home to an apartment that has been closed up while I'm at work on a summer day. With one fan pointed straight up toward the ceiling and the other blowing directly on me, I can relatively quickly start to reduce the temperature of my livingroom/kitchen area. The bottom fan on this item is quieter than the top fan, but they are both pretty quiet overall. The durability of this item seems to be very good with regard to the housing and titling mechanism. I would recommend this item if you are want a fan that has flexible features, but not if you need a very powerful fan for larger rooms. "Terrible to clean" 2009-06-12 By JJO (CA) I love the idea behind this fan. Two fans (both have two speeds), the ability to independently adjust the positions of the fans. Adjustments are limited in their direction but it is still a good idea. Air output is ok but no more than ok. So, why only one star? Because I like to clean my fans. Fans get really dirty after they have been running awhile. The blades are usually covered in dust as are the protective grills surrounding them. That is why most fans are easy to take apart and put back together. NOT THIS ONE! The grills are held in place by 4 recessed screws that must be removed from the rear. I would suggest removing the screws inside a box or some sort of container that will prevent you from losing track of them as the drop out when the grill is lifted off. Once the grill has been removed you are finished removing things because the fan blades are not removable. The back portions of the grills are not removable either. So all you can do is wash the grill fronts and wipe off the rest of the parts (no easy task believe me). Now comes the really fun part. Putting the front grills back on. They have to be lined up in a very specific manner or all of the four holes will not line up with their companion holes on the grill backs. Two will line up easily but the other two won't. Keep turning the grill until all four holes line up. Once you get the holes lined up (I needed a flashlight to actually see the potential unions of the front and back grills) you have to get the screws back into the recessed holes. I suggest needle nose pliers for this part of the job. Once you get the screws into the holes you must tighten them down (no easy task when you can't see the place where the screws engage the threads. I will never attempt to take this fan apart again. I finally took it outside and used Dust Off to clean it as much as I could. If it gets really bad i will send it to Goodwill. The bottom line is that if you are fussy about cleaning your fans (as I am) this is not the fan for you. If you you do not need high cooling just mild air circulation then fine, just did not serve my needs. Note the fans are small size. "Better than mediocre fan" 2008-08-16 By ASP (NJ) This is a review for the 8700 model. Actual rating is a 3.5. This fan is made fully of plastic. The plastic is slightly durable. It does not feel like cheap plastic though, but it doesn't feel like high quality plastic either. The total height of the fan is 22", and with the handle it is 23" high. There are two fans, both the same size, and each fan is 9" in diameter. The top fan is stuck to the handle, so in order to angle that fan up or down, you just need to move the handle forward or backward. The bottom fan is on a separate hinge, so it can be moved up or down independently. You can have one fan facing downward, and the other angled up at the ceiling, or you can have both fans angled up at the ceiling to help with air circulation. The fans do a good job of circulating the air in a closed room, like a bedroom, but not in a room like a living room where it would have two openings (mine has an opening into the dining room and into the front door/foyer). This fan is mainly for bedrooms about 15' x 15' or smaller. There are two fan speeds, I or II, and the off setting (O). Regarding the noise, on setting I, the fans are somewhat quiet like a muffled whirr, but still can be heard well in a quiet room, although I can fall asleep with both fans on setting I. On setting II, the noise is kind of quiet like a muffled whirr, yet it is very noticeable, so you wouldn't want to have it on when you are trying to sleep, but you wouldn't mind it all if you had the TV on or had comapny over, or had something else to do that would occupy your mind. The noise is muffled (since it is plastic) and it doesn't sound like those metal fans because this is a plastic fan. I enjoy my fan. Glad I purchased it for my room, but I think I'll find a more powerful model for the whole house, maybe the 8800 series or higher. This works exactly as advertised--no noise, instant heat, and less electricity used than a conventional heater (so I no longer blow a fuse in the office when everyone has their heaters turned on). I have a large porch with skylights, lots of windows, and three walls with outer exposure--it's really cold in the winter. Before I bought the heaters I used to rely on baseboard electric heating installed on the porch, but it usually took a while until the room was warm enough to use. However, with just two of these heaters, we can start watching TV in minutes, and also use less electricity. Since the heaters don't come with an on/off switch, I keep them plugged into a power strip and just turn the power strip off when I want to turn the heaters off. The only problem I have had with it is the light no longer works.
